homemade meat baby food
« on: January 26, 2008, 14:24:12 pm »
once you prepare and freeze the cubes, how do you all serve it?  Do you need to heat it to a certain temp and then cool it down, or is it safe to just warm it straight from the freezer to "eating" temperature?  (in regard to food safety, etc.)

Thanks!
Maggie

I was told that you should heat it up to piping hot and then let it cool to eating temp.  Also, once it is defrosted do not refreeze.

oops.  I've just been heating to eating temperature, but now that you mention, I DO remember reading somewhere to heat to piping then cool down.  ooops.

Please do heat it to piping hot (63degC), whether meat or not, to minimise risk of food poisoning from bugs - obviously let it cool before offering it to your lo :)

Thank you everyone - that's what I thought - that you were supposed to heat it first, then let cool.  But it's funny how most of those homemade babyfood sites (at least the ones I looked at) don't mention that!

Thank goodness I'm a bit of a germ-a-phobe and decided to ask anyway!
