19 month old 30 mins at nap time
« on: January 28, 2008, 15:30:27 pm »
My 19 month old DD has been taking less amounts of sleep for her nap lately, its gone from 1 1/2 hours a day to 30 mins in the last week. I feel its too early for her to be dropping this nap, don't you think?

Her routine is:

7.15 am wake up
12.30 pm nap (used to be till 2pm, now wakes at 1pm)
7.15pm bed (sometimes earlier if the nap was too short)

If she only has 30 min nap I put her to bed at 6.45/7pm and she will be alseep within half an hour.
On the days when she sleeps longer, she will go to bed 7.15/7.30 and can easily take an hour to get to sleep. She does act tired before her nap, so I know she needs one and although she has been teething her molars, thats not every day.

I do think she's too young to be giving up... when she wakes 30mins into her nap, is she up & crying? Have you tried to leave her there to see if she will go back to sleep?

To be honest, we go through stages where Jasmine will take short 1hr naps about 3 or so days in a row & then it will go back to 1.5-2hrs long. With us almost always the short naps are related to teething... so perhaps try to give her some pain relief before she goes down for a nap to see if that will help

You could also try maybe shifting her nap 15mins earlier cause it might be that she's a little overtired by 12.30 & alot of times that results in a short 30min nap

Thanks Layla,
Sometimes she wakes crying, then I know its teething, but other times she wakes up quiet and so I leave her foir about half an hour, but she doesn't go back to sleep. Lat night I put her to bed at 6.45pm to make up for the lost sleep in the day, so I'll see how she goes today

Karen..

Well today after an early bedtime last night and waking at 6.30 am, meaning she'd slept 11.5 hours, I put her down for her nap 45 mins earlier than usual so that was at 11.45am. When I put her to bed I asked her to sleep at least an hour for me and she did! Its not as good as it was, but its a great improvement. :)
