2YO just started day care and not sleeping!
« on: January 31, 2008, 05:09:27 am »
Hi,

My DD was 2 this month and has started 2 days at day care. Last year she was doing some half days and coming home to sleep but as of last week she has started from 8.30 - 3.30pm. Her first day last week she slept for over an hour and the day after and both yesterday and today she didn't sleep at all. She sleeps 2 hours + at home (which is a quiet, dark room) but I'm guessing because there is a lot going on at care and some kids don't' sleep she just wants to play the whole time. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Do I just see how we go for the next month or so any maybe she'll learn that she has to sleep there or do I accept that for 2 out of 7 days she won't sleep and just deal with it. She isn't unhappy or too grumpy when I pick her up and she hasn't slept, I have been putting her to bed earlier. Yesterday after she didn't sleep I put her to bed around 6pm (normal bed time is 7/7.30pm) BUT she was up at 5.30am and I was sure she would sleep at care today having  been up since that early and not sleeping yesterday but they said she just wanted to play and didn't want to sleep. I know they try to get her to sleep there but must be difficult when the older kids are getting up after a little rest.

What do most of the other kids do?  I think that would make a difference, seeing other kids still playing.  At least it's only 2 days and she is not in bad spirits, so she may just adjust to 2 days of no-sleep!

She might get used to sleeps there as the excitement dies down, If she's never been used to sleeping there the novelty is too much.
