21mos and night waking
« on: March 06, 2008, 13:13:42 pm »
I need some advice.  My DD who is 21 mos has always been a very good sleeper, she has her moments, but the last week, anytime she lost her paci she would wake up and cry.  My husband would go in there and retrieve it and she would fall back asleep.  Last night she woke up 3 hours after her bedtime and was hysterical.  She would only stop crying if I was holding her.  She went into hysterics if my husband tried to hold her.  She was WIDE awake.  I tried rocking her, comforting her in her crib, rubbing her back while "shhhhhhing" her, finally 2.5 hours later, I hooked her sound machine back up, which we have not used in almost a year, and put on the waves sound.  I left the room, she cried out two seperate times and fell asleep. At that point I think she was just exhausted.

She wakes during the week at 6:30am, naps for 2 hours in the afternoon, and goes to bed at 7pm. She has never had a problem going to sleep.

Please help. Thanks!  ???

That is what I am "hoping" it is, teething, but it seems to be a seperation anxiety thing or something.  And I am not sure how to "deal" with that.

try to spend more time with her during the day, if you can and try tell her what is going to happen before it does. like 2noe is time for bath, and then dinner and then sleep" She will learn the rotine and she can repeat it out loud (my dd does it) and that will amke her feel safer. we have special songs for bed routine and kind of special words, like "its time to sleep. sleep is good. Mommy/daddy is here...
Hugs

My DD knows very well the routine, she even tells me sometimes when she is ready for her bath or nig-night.  I do her bath and dressing and husband, if he is home in time, does brushing the teeth & reading with her.  Although, the reading has changed as well, she does not like to sit in the chair and read with you anymore, she insists on reading by herself on the floor or footstool. She even will point to the crib and say nig-night when she is ready to go to bed.

Hopefully it will not happen again tonight, but if it does, the husband is on duty and he is going to try wi/wo.  And hopefully it is only a milestone she is going through.
