Hello,

My DD is 14 months and has a nasty red rash around her mouth and on her chin.  It's bright red and slightly raised. She looks a little like a clown these days.  It doesn't seem to bother her, but I'm wondering if it's related to teething or if it's an allergy.  She has no other rashes on her body or bum.  It came on a few weeks ago and just seems to be getting worse.  She is getting her molars, so I thought that what it was.  But, perhpas it's a food allergy?  Thankfully we are seeing thedoc tomorrow.

Has anyone had a LO with this kind of rash?

my dd2 is touch allergic to tomatoes,soya,kiwi and many more.if its something like that then it should fade.piriton helps her.
or is she drooling alot with her teeth?if so then a little vasaline on the area should stop it getting sore.

It doesn't seem to get any better throughout the day.  Someday sare worse than others though. It does seem worse after she wakes up.  I have been slathering her with vaseline, but it won't go away!  She is drooling from teething and also sick witha  cold, so perhaps this contributing to it.

does she have a dummy?that could be trapping the saliva.

My niece gets this...with her its dry skin from where she dribbles/licks it!  :P

My friends daughter used to get a rash that sounds like what you are describing. Hers was due to saliva being trapped due to her dummy. It was also worse when she was teething as she drooled more.

Maybe it is eczema, you should check with you pediatrician.  My son has it all over his body but the first patch appeared on his face near his chin.  If it is very severe your doc may prescribe a cortisone based creme to apply to it.  If it is not severe, he/she might just suggest to moisturize often (2-3x/day).  The good news is, if it is eczema it will likely go away.  The bad news is, it will also likely come back as it is a skin condition.  Some have it very mildly and some have it more severely (like my son  :-\).

PS: it could also be caused by excessive drooling and not at all related to eczema

We get some bumps from drool and what not and I use a light cortizone and/or Aquaphor - LOOOOOOVE it!!!!

Did you get her checked by the doctor?  My first DS always got this with teething, but he also got it when I introduced a new food.  What do you wipe her face with after eating?  Could be from that??

My ds also has eczema and was very severe from head to toe. Luckily we can keep it under control most of the time now. From the description it did not sound like eczema, however there are different types and it is always hard to tell from descriptions.

Did you take your lo to the doctor?
