How Long Does Your 2-3 Month Old Feed For?
« on: March 04, 2008, 10:48:59 am »
I'm only asking as my friend, who's baby is 3 weeks younger than Ioan, takes an hour to feed and Ioan only take roughly 5-7 mins, it's definintely less than 10 mins.  Even Elin, who took a good 45 mins to feed in the early days was down to a fair few mins by this age - so I was just wondering what the 'norm' is - not because of any concerns, just because I have a "scientific enquiring mind"  ;)

We are about the same as you Awel - about 5-7 minutes on average. Sometimes less.
I think an hour at this point is unusual. 40 minutes is not a worry at all but a feed of an hour or more can be an indication of latching problems. Weight gain OK?
Is he really feeding or does he take micro naps at the breast?

Weight gain is fine, but like you say Emma - I suspect there's napping going on there.  I just thought that an hour seems a longish time too.

Callie has never fed for that long.  5 mins is long for her.

Ciara would often feed for about an hour in the earlier days but she was doing lots of napping and had a big feed/sleep association going on.

About 10-15 minutes for a really good feed.

However, sometimes broken into 2 sessions of 5 mins each as Kate is such a busy girl these days to waste time hanging out feeding ::) ;D
