tongue thrust reflex?
« on: March 14, 2008, 19:39:49 pm »
I have been trying solids (applesauce) with my 6 1/2 month old daughter a couple of weeks ago.  Most of the time she either locks her lips shut or pushes the spoon and/or most of the applesauce out with her tongue or lips.  Quite different from my son who couldn't have been more eager right from the start.  I'm not too worried about it yet, but wonder what is the latest anyone has experienced this kind of behaviour?

Some babies just don't like to be spoon-fed, like my dd2 ::) I chose the Baby-led Weaning (BLW) route of introducing solid foods instead and it worked well for us - check out the FAQ about it for more info, also the one on Spoon Refusal!

It is good that you are not worried, babies don't really need solid foods for nutrition yet, so there's no rush to introduce them :) much more valuable to create positive associations with the whole process of eating from the start!
