Rocking in high chair - how do I get him to stop???
« on: March 20, 2008, 01:39:13 am »
Hello -

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here I go.  My 9 month old son gets in his high chair and he rocks back and forth non-stop so hard that he moves the chair across the floor!  He'll sometimes stop when I come at him with the spoon, but most of the time I'm trying to hit his open mouth as a moving target.   ???  He's neither upset nor laughing, it's just like he's in a trance!  There's nothing "wrong" with him that would cause this behavior and I'm sure it's probably in the spectrum of normal behavior, but it's really irritating and I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem and if there are any suggestions on how to get him to stop.  Or is this something I just need to deal with?

Thanks!

Lindsay

I do think it's in the spectrum of totally normal behavior.  Not sure how longs it's been going on but you might find it passes very quickly.

My boys would do strange things like that for a couple of days, and then once they were bored with it, or figured out all they could figure out by say, rocking back and forth in the highchair, they would be done and on to the next discovery.

You could try tying a sash around his middle to hold him a bit more secure.  Depending on how much time you have to fart around with meals, you could just get him down and try again in 10-20-30 minutes or so.  Maybe he's just not hungry enough to focus on the food.
