1 nap back to 2?
« on: April 14, 2008, 11:40:49 am »
My 13 month old started refusing his pm nap, which wasn't very long anyway, about 1 month ago. Over 2 weeks the transition went pretty well and we were doing
6:30/7 wake
nap 12:15-2
bed 7/7:30

We had a few rough nights but he began to settle into a routine nicely. One day he slept 12 hours at night so his nap was short and then it began a cycle of weird naps, am wakings. He really is only able to do 11 hours at night doing 11.5-12 on very few occasions. It seems no matter when he goes down 11 hour or 11.25 is really his best amount.
For the last few days things have been all over the place and I am wondering if I should go back to 2 naps to get him caught up.
Here is what has happened in the last 2 days
Sat bed 9 pm! (my mom was babysitting and it was the first time that I didn't put him to bed in his whole life......he has NEVER gone down this late)
wake 6 am
nap#1 10-10:57
nap #2:3:15-4:25
bed 7:30
no NW

Sunday
wake 6:30
nap #1: 9:30-10:15 fell asleep in the carriage on a walk for MS-this was a big surprise
nap #2: 2:30-3 played in his bed from 1:45
bed:6:30 asleep 7

Today
wake at 4:45- 1 wi/pd/wo
wake for the day 6:10 am

I really have to be super consistent with him and go by clock times rather than A times or things get off track really easily. I can't figure out if he is OT or UT?He has gone from getting 13.25 hours a day to 12.5 and I don't know how to fix it! HELP.......

Hi jcsmom-

I think it's likely he's OT, it's very common and can exist up to 6 weeks post transition.  The 9pm bedtime probably didn't help.

Not sure what to suggest though- what was working during the transition?  I'd be inclined to go back to that OR earlier nap and earlier bedtime.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in!

Hang in there,
Leslie

So now I am confused. If he was OT would he not just have a short nap for his one nap? Today due to plans I put him down for 1 nap at noon and he slept 1 hour 40 and he went to bed fine. When he has 2 naps they are short and going down is impossible.
Leslie, how's it going for youe LO?

Anyone else?

The 9pm bedtime probably caused some overtiredness so therefore he had 2 daysleeps. If you think he is ok now to go back to 1 nap, then put him down around noon

13hrs is about the av for toddlers who go down to 1nap.
