8 1/2 month old suddenly won't sleep!
« on: April 09, 2008, 11:48:53 am »
Hi

My 8 1/2 month old baby has been a fantastic sleeper since around 5 months.  He has been able to be put into his cot and go for  2 naps which were 1 1/2 hrs  each and has slept 12hrs from 8pm-8am for the past 3 1/2months.

Now he's becoming increasingly difficult to put down for a nap and for night sleep .  When he does finally go down for a nap he wakes after 30 mins very upset.

He has been teething I guess this could be an issue but I have tried putting gel on before his naps.  We haven't had any NW issues yet though but he's not gettting off to sleep until 9pm and that's usually up with us although we don't need to rock him he just falls asleep on my husbands knee watching television!  Could it be separation anxiety?

here is my current routine

8am up porridge & bottle (7oz)
10.45-11am Activity
11am-11.30(ish) sleep
11.30-12.30 Activity
12.30 Lunch solids only
12.30-3pm Activity
3pm-3.30pm sleep
4pm bottle

Would love to get my little darling back again!
Please help! ???

By the sounds of it , he could be OT.  with so little naps he really needs to go down earlier in the evening.  Lucky there are no nw!!!

30min naps normally mean OT, so try putting him down earlier for the first nap - say 30mins.  3hrs is about right A time, but for the first nap, A time can be shorter to get a better nap.  And, the 3hrs A time really relates to a well rested baby.  So if you get a 30min nap, try put him back down around 1.5/2hrs after the nap.  YOu may get longer then.

Then when he is back to longer naps, he can stay up a bit longer at night time
