How many naps should a 6 month old be taking?
« on: April 23, 2008, 20:42:41 pm »
Hello,

Just wondering if a few people would be willing to share how many naps a day their 6 month (or somewhere near there) are taking?  And how long of an A time they have in between their naps.

Thanks

Hi!  My 6 1/2 mo DD has 2 - 2hr naps and a 45 minute catnap.  She's like an egg timer, set her for 2 hours of A time and the 'alarm' goes off on the dot!

((Hugs)) Nicole!!

We're doing 2 x 2 hours and a catnap.  Funnily, DD has refused catnap pretty much since birth and has just started to regularly take it in the last couple of weeks!!  It lasts between 30 and 45 mins depending on how near bedtime it is ie; if it's nearer bedtime I wake her sooner, kwim?

My son is 6 months today and seems to have fallen into a 2 nap + catnat(most of the time) per day routine. I was having some serious problems with him not napping and I realized he was not close to being tired. So I cut the naps down to 2 and things have been working a lot better! They range from 1.15 H to 2 H each, with a catnap of 30-45 minutes. His A time varies from 2 H to 3 hours average about 2.30 H depending on what we are doing. He is NOT predictable when it comes to when he is tired anymore. I realized I just have to roll with the punches and maybe it will regulate some soon.

Thanks for everyone's responses!  My LO sounds all too familiar.  We have worked on 2 naps and 1 catnap, but she is a bugger to go down for her catnap.  Her A time is usually 2.15hrs and her naps range from 1 1/2 to 2 hrs, but sometimes only 45 minutes.  She also is not predictable so I feel like it's a "shot in the dark" that she might go down.  Thanks everyone!

My DD2 is just over 6months and dropped her catnap a few weeks ago. She now does 1.5hrs in the morning and 2-2.5hrs in the afternoon.

My 6 month old has 3 naps day, 2 longer ones and a catnap although times vary hugely. He is also very hard to get a catnap in but he definetly still needs it as he is visibly tired and ot. He has around 2hrs A time.

Hello Aprilhyzer!
I have a 6 mo and 1 wk old DB.  Or naps are all over the place.  Thanks for posting this.  I will give the wide range that he is napping.

Naps
Usually 8-8:30; not wanting to budge until the other day when he finally fell asleep 9:45(too late).  This resulted in him sleeping longer.  Once in a while he will take a longer morning nap.  (30 min)

Some where between 11-12 he will fall asleep (usually an hour to hour and half)

Wants to fall asleep between 2-3.  (lucky if it's an hour)

The snare is the cat nap, which is usually a bear.  He wakes at 3/4 or so, he doesn't want to nap.  A lot of days he does the 4 short naps.

I wonder what Nicole-momtomegan's schedule looks like?

Thanks for posting.  Nice to hear from other 6 mo mommies. :-)

My LO is 6.5 months and just dropped her catnap so she has 2 naps per day.  When she dropped her catnap her other 2 naps lengthened back out to 1.5 - 2hours for a  bit but now she has reverted to one long (1.5-2 hours) and one short nap (45 min to 1 hour) Her A time is about 3 hours.  When she dropped the catnap her A quickly went from 2.5 hours to 3 hours/3 hours 15 mins.
