Sterilising- a quick (possibly silly) question!
« on: June 08, 2008, 21:55:13 pm »
I am new to bottle feeding and have just introduced a bottle for my 9mth olds 7am feed. Now, I use ready made formula and have been getting up at 6.50am to sterilise bottle in steam steriliser - my questions is - Can I sterilise bottle night before if I close it and put lid on it immediately and then in morning add the formula or should I continue sterlising it freshly every morning?! Thank you! :)

I use powder formula and this is what I do:

Sterilise bottles, fill with boiling water and pop into fridge. Remove bottle from fridge as and when desired!!  ;D ;D

I can't see why you can't sterilise the night before, put the cap on and then add the milk when you're ready. I have done it that way myself and C has been non-the-worst for it!!

What part of the world do you live in, how is your water?  Ask your pediatrician, you may not need to sterilize at all.  Here in my city we have very clean water, and we were told we only needed to sterilize equipment (pacis, bottles, etc) when first taking it out of the package, after that washing in the dishwasher or with hot soapy water in the sink is sufficient.

Whenever we go out I sterilise the bottle before hand, put the lid on and then add the milk later when I'm out. I can't see why this wouldn't work overnight too.

yes I would say that was fine, I used to make up (well DH did ;)) all of my LOs bottles on the evening and use them throughout the next day. But I know that this isnt recommended anymore. But I guess the insides of the bottles would still be sterile even if there was nothing inside it'

DS is now 6mths and I havent sterilised his water beaker for weeks now. The bottles for milk will still get sterilised for a wee while longer as he's on anti-bs at the mo but once he's better, the steriliser is getting packed away!!
