Hi ds in 10 months and for a while had naps of 1 hr 10 mins. I tried different A times to extend this some seemed to work for a while but we always ended out back at the same time ( I would be happy with this if it didnt result in NW). I finally seemed to find a time that suited him 3hrs 20 mins A time give or take. This worked really well for 3 weeks but now all of a sudden he is arching his back and crying at nap and bedtime. We are back to 1 hr 10 mins and sometimes even less and last night we had our first NW for 3 and half weeks. He did not cry but was awake for 45 mins. On average he has 11 hrs + a night. Not sure what to do next.debx

>1hour naps is pretty good actually....
does he go to sleep independently for naps and night?
did you have to go in to him last night when he was awake or was he just up chatting?  if chatting that's ok, just leave him to it.
can you post your routine? thanks

He mostly sleeps independently occasionally have to wait with him til he settles but I can leave before he is asleep. When he woke  through the nightI left him for 20 mins until he stated to get annoyed then I went in. i tried patting but he wasn't interested so i just stood in the room for a while until he stopped shouting, then I left while he was still awake. It took him another 10 mins or so to fall asleep.
Our Routine on Tues- it is generally pretty stable
Awake- 6.20
Milk- 7.10
Breakfast 8.10
Sleep-9.40-10.55
Milk-11.05
Lunch 12.05
Sleep 2.15 (was a bit of a struggle- is not normally)- 3.20
Milk 3.30
Tea 4.15
Bath 5.20
Milk 5.50
Settle- 6.10-
Asleep 6.45-( this was too late was aiming for 6.25 but again struggledto settle).

Just wondering at 10 months if he starts to shorten one nap should I let him or force the issue?
Yesterday naps were better 2 1hrs 15 min naps and no NW last night. debx

i would be careful about going in before he is really crying "mommy i need you", they can quickly learn that mommy comes when i do this.  if he's just annoyed or shouting or mantra crying don't go in.  sometimes they also do a start stop cry, so i always count to 10 when she's crying (or go to the bathroom) before going in  ;)

here's a link for you:

he may be gearing up to go to 1 nap, but you want to delay it as long as possible (usually between 12 and 18 months, but the closer to 18 months the better!)

sounds like yesterday was better, great no NWs.  this is always my gage - if i don't get NW then i'm happy!

is he still taking a good amount at all 4 bottles?  you want to go to 3 at some point (we're already on 3 for the last 2 weeks and DD is almost 9 months)

HTH!

Have toyed with the idea of going down to 3 bottles, but teething seems to put him off sucking so I am going with the little and often. I will try once this top tooth has cut. Yesterday only had 45 mins in the am and 1 hr20 in the pm. Last night cried out at 45 mins and 1.5 hrs- he has done this alot in the past  when he was ot( I did try to put him to bed early but would not settle) but no actual NW. I am torn as to whether to keep pushing for 2 long naps. I don't want to make him cry unless I have to. debx
