LUNCH: love solids better than her formula milk?
« on: May 30, 2008, 13:12:11 pm »
My lo seems to take less and less formula milk for lunch. She takes 220 ml first thing in the morning, then after lunch and then before bed 220 ml.
Today she only took 60ml of formula milk, however she eats really well.
Breakfast after milk is cereal with fruit pure.
Her normal lunch meal + a fruit like a plum, a peach or a pear and sometimes bits of cheese + water.
When she wakes up after her 2nd nap, she has custard, fromage frais or semolina as a snack.
Dinner plus fruit and water around  5.45 or 6 pm
Milk before bed tat 7.30.
Is it ok to just no force her lunch milk? would she be ok? She is very active all the time and I guess burning lots of energy.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

The recommended minimum quantity of babymilk for babies up to 12 months is 20oz or 600ml, your lo seems to be having less than this, however she is having milk-based snacks which is a reasonable substitute :-\ it's all about fats and calories in the first year, and introducing your lo to the kind of diet that she will be expected to eat throughout her childhood, so it's great that she's into her fresh fruits and veggies, sets her up for the future, but she just won't get all the fats and calories she needs from them, she needs her milk for that, so I would encourage her to keep having as much babymilk as she'll take for a bit longer yet!

Today she just did not want any of the milk for lunch!!! so I grated some cheese on her pasta, then for pudding she has a pot of fromage fraise 60 grms, and half of a peach. She took her water after though. Later on I'll give her semolina with milk as a snack. No changes with her sleep patters so far. HV says that 400 -440 ml of milk should be fine if that's all she wants but I worry about no having enough fats. What else can I give her if she does not want to take that extra bottle of milk? thnaks

Dairy really, and other high calcium foods, but nothing really substitutes for the babymilk - think of it as a McD's vanilla thick shake vs a Weight Watchers carrot soup ;D
