long naps interupt night sleep?
« on: June 02, 2008, 08:28:57 am »
Hi, my LO is 9 months next week. At the moment he naps for 1 hr 30 in morning and about the same in afternoon or even 2 hrs. I am not complaining!!! Wondering whether I need to shorten his morning nap to an hour because now he is beginning to be awake more than 3 hours waking at 11.30 ish is making his afternoon sleep late and so is not waking until 4.30 pm or should I say I am waking him if he is not awake by then. If he naps from say 10-11 am then he will probably nap at 2.30 pm where as now is 3.00 pm often. I am not sure about waking him from a nap? Some of this is because I had 6 months of nightmare 30 mins naps and then all of a sudden he clicked with his naps. He is sleeping through from 7 ish until 6.30 am ish at the moment. Don't want to mess this up either. Any ideas or advice?

I did the same - had a fixed wake up time - then when he started to fight the afternoon nap I shortened the morning one.  If he is going to bed alright from waking at 4.30 I'd stick with it for a while.  I would say 3 hours is probably the max for this age if you still want a 11/12 hour night.

i would have a fixed wake up time for the afternoon nap.  morning nap let him sleep as long as he wants, but then cut the afternoon nap so he can keep his bedtime.
