Wean from BF first or Resolve Sleep Problems
« on: July 01, 2008, 21:08:01 pm »
I posted on the PU/PD thread but have another question. My 10.5 month old son nurses one-two times at night and sleeps with us in his bed.

We would like to wean him from nursing and have him sleep in his own bed throughout the night. Currently, I get him to sleep in his own bed from 8 pm -11pm but then he wants to nurse and sleep with us.

Which do I do first - wean him completely from the breast or try and get him to sleep through the night in his own bed?

Hi, Every lo is different but i think that i might be inclined to feed at that time but then put back in his cot and persit with that. Is that 11p, feed a df? or does he wake? If he wakes then feed 15-30mins before he is due to wake. The nwing's i would just sh/pat till the morning.

Its going to probably be quite hard, so make sure you are ready for it and try and get dh/dp to help out too so as he knows his not getting a feed from him. The first night is the hardest but as the nights go by it WILL get easier. When we did this i think it took 1.5 hrs (not constant crying) to get him back off on 1 nwing then 2hrs later another 45mins but after 2-3 nights he was sleeping through again.

Thanks, Kate. I'm just so incredibly tired as we also have a two year old. We followed the BW exactly with our oldest son and he is a fantastic sleeper. However, I only nursed him for three months so it was a little easier to have help and to be consistent.

I appreciate your encouragement.

My other 2 children were both really great sleepers day and night, Zane on the other hand is shall we say very sensitive so im not used to it either. So don't think just cos your bfing that it would be any different, its just all lo's are different.

Its ll about being consistant and the rest will follow, chin up you'll be fine :)
