Evening Wakings
« on: June 06, 2008, 00:52:06 am »
Hello,
I feel kinda bad posting after reading some of your posts about multiple night wakings.  I am lucky to have a lo who sleeps through the night (most nights).  We do have a problem in the evening though.  We put him down at 7:30 and he wakes on and off from then until about 10 or 11.  Sometimes it is only twice, but other times can be five or six times.  Just wondering if anyone has any ideas why.
Here is our present routine....lo is 8 months

7:30 - Wake and eat solids (We struggled endlessly getting him to take his bottle)
10:30 - Bottle (9 oz of Expressed Breast Milk)
Nap shortly thereafter (1hour and a half)
12:15 - Wake and eat solids
3:00 - Bottle (9 oz of Expressed Breast Milk)
Nap shortly thereafter (1 hour and a half)
5:00 - Solids
7:00 bath
7:30 - Bottle (9 oz of Expressed Breast Milk)
In bed by 8
Thanks for any input!!
Lisa

Hi there!  Often this is OT.  Can you post the start and stop time of your naps so I can see if his routine might need a tweak?

Also can he get to sleep on his own at bedtime?

And finally what is he doing when he wakes in the evening (screaming?  chatting?  grizzling?)

Sorry for all the Q's!

Bryony

Hi,
Thank you so much for your responses.
Bryony, to answer your questions:
His naps are at about 10:45-12:15 and 3:30-5:00...times may vary depending on his cues but naps are almost always 1 hour and a half.

We are just at the tale end of sleep training. He goes into his cot awake and dh or I pat him until he is very calm and settled and then leave the room.

When he wakes in the eveinings, he starts by calling out, but then, it develops into a full on cry.
Heather:  ds is mostly a textbook baby.
Thanks again ladies!

Hmm - your routine looks good to me, I am a little stumped!  As Heather says you could try reducing the morning A time slightly in case it's OT

Anything else going on?  New developmental milestones?  Teething?

Flutie,

First, I just have to say that your little saying at the bottom "signature" area moved me to tears (in a good way)...that is one of my FAVORITE songs, and such an absolutely beautiful way of looking at those two verses - thank you for that!!!

Second, *HUGS!* for the evening wakings. We've been having them recently, too, but, I've been thinking it's cause she's hungry...she hasn't been eating as much during the day as I'd like, and we haven't figured out how to change that, yet. Reading through all this makes me think it very well could be OT, though, hmmm...

Thanks for this thread & hope you find some help & relief. :)

Hello all,
Thanks for all your replies!
Byrony,  LO is just starting to creep and is ALWAYS teething...although this usually appears as night waking rather than evening?!

Shaota....That is my absolute favourite song!  Although it took on such a stronger meaning when Elijah was born!

I am going to  try to tweak his morning a little bit...although he has a mind of his own when it comes to naps...he will not go down if he is not ready so we shall see!!!
