Thinking of switching formulas
« on: June 10, 2008, 21:33:04 pm »
I am thinking of switching formulas from Similac Advanced to the Sams Club brand.  Members Mark I think it is.  Has anyone used it?  I know it is supposed to be the generic version of Emfamil.  Do you think he will have a hard time switching over??  It is just such a difference in price.  DS has no problems with his formula now.

I guess it could be worth a shot! There is definitely a price difference which can really add up! I was bummed too after the fact that I started my LO on Similac Advance and then realized the Sams Club didn't have a version of it. From a lot of things I've read it seems that there really isn't much of a difference between name brand and generic. It depends on your LO too...I know some babies who are really easy going and take on to something new without a problem...and then there's mine who is pretty picky! We tried switching formula once because I thought the formula was giving him an upset tummy but he wouldn't touch the new formula.

If your LO doesn't take to it right away maybe you could make it a gradual process? You could gradually add the new formula in with the Similac? I guess I don't know for sure if it's ok to mix the two so you might want to check into that.

Good luck!

I switched from Enfamil to the Wal-Mart brand Parent's Choice, and we just went cold turkey...I think we might have even mixed them.  When I asked my doctor about it, she said that they are exactly the same ingredients so we didn't have to do a gradual switching.  I don't know about the Sam's Club brand, but it's probably about the same.  Maybe compare the labels and see...
