Day 5 of 20min naps!
« on: June 27, 2008, 18:42:50 pm »
AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!

What is happening? DS is 5mo and has only had 20min naps for the last 5 days! Has never been a good napper but this is HORRIBLE!

Before all this started, he was having 1.75h of A time, sometimes up to 2h, sometimes 1.5h. I must say I am more a sleep cue watcher then a clock watcher...

Naps were anything from 45min to 2.5h. He goes down independently, a bit of help for bed time. Extending has always been a challenge, he fights me putting him on his side for patting and pu/pd is not an issue, he pulls my hair, my glasses and pinches very hard :P

With these 20min naps, I cut down his A time to 1h15min, thinking he is OT. No effect. I have tried extending his A time to 2h15min, no effect. I have tried leaving him fussing in his crib for a while, never went back down. No luck on extending, W2S does not seem appropriate.

Any other ideas?
Barbara

ive been having nothing but 25-30 min naps the last 3 days as well. How old is you LO
mine is 28 weeks tommorow.

for me i think its because he has all of a sudden started sleeping 12 hours at night. so tonight we put him to bed later..at 8 instead of 715 .

Barbara, could you post your routine and we'll go from there?  20 minute naps will lead to OT for sure, but since shortening his A time hasn't helped I'd say there's something else going on too, like OS.  What temperament is he?  Does he have any props?  With OS, you need to cut out all stimulation like light and mobiles in the crib keep A time quiet and low-key.  What kind of wind-down do you do before naps?  How does he do at night?

Hi Barbara,

I dont have any advice for you (ha ha, what a laughable idea!!!) but I just wanted to say I'm in the same boat and it's driving me crazy too. I have posted my own message but I'm watching this thread too to see if there are any ideas.  I also have played with A time but this hasn't made a difference.
So anyway, Hugs to you and hope things improve.

Krissy18, interesting that you mention that your LO has just started sleeping 12 hours at night, this is the same for me.  My LO was having up to 7 NW and now is sleeping through with just 1 feed.  So just when I think things are going well the nap nightmare begins!!  ::)

proudmum,
yup we had to cut night sleep, i think my little one only has around a 13.5 hour sleep requirement so if he sleeps 10.5-11 hours at night thats enough to get some good day sleep outta him. with 12 hours at night we were getting less than 2 hours of day sleep and one OT LO by bedtime...so now bedtime is just a bit closer to 8. it also seems he the stretch from his last nap to bedtime helps him fall asleep faster. aftter his last nap he has about 4-5 hours before bed.
