What is the shh/pat?
« on: July 08, 2008, 21:32:51 pm »
Hi all,

please excuse my ignorance but either Ive missed this in the book I have or maybe its in a different book?

But can someone please let me know what is the shhh/pat I hear so much about?

Im assuming its a way to settle your lo to sleep. Which I've been doing anyway.
I tend to swaddle him (when sleepy as before this he's to wriggly and ends up getting out of swaddle before he's in bed). Once swaddled I hold him in my arms with one hand under him, I pat his back & sway a bit, dont often say shhh unless he's grizzly or crying, but if quiet I tell him that its sleep time.

Am I doing this right?

Also with settling him it can be hard as he has been in discomfort during feeds, so often he is fed, then alot of burping time given, only once that he has relaxed can I get him into swaddle and into bed, sometimes this takes a few attempts. It seems he starts to get tired (he's yawning) bit is still writhing around (assumed to wind)??

Any suggestions on settling a windy bub?

Thanks  :)

hi
have you read the babywhisperer books?  secrets of the baby whisperer, and the baby whisperer solves all your problems.  it is explained in great detail in there and if you haven't read one or both they are fantastic reads and great at explaining how to teach independent sleep.
