is my 7 month old gettign enough milk?
« on: July 16, 2008, 00:37:36 am »
how much formula should a 7month old be having per day?
my LO was EBF until she was 4 months old. then when she started on solids i couldnt deal with pumping for mixing cereal etc so i used formula for that and started giving her some formula in a bottle after her solid meal but i dont really know how much i should be giving her. now she is 7 months old and she will only bf at night and maybe for a few mins in the am.

she usually has somethign like this:

6am bf 2-5 mins
7.30 am breakfast - 3 tbsp oatmeal, 1 cube fruit, 6-8oz formula
8.30am nap (1.5 hrs)
10am bf - refuses
12.30 lunch - 2 tbsp baby rice, 2 cubes veg, chicken, 1 cube fruit, 6-8oz formula
2pm nap (1.5hrs)
3.30 bf -refuses
5.30 dinner - 1 tbsp baby rice, 2 cubes veg 6-8oz formula
6.30 bath
7pm bf 10mins
7.15 bed

she usually wakes once in the night for bf

does this sound like she is getting enough milk? how much formula should she have at this age?
following advice from these boards i am going to start giving her the milk FIRST, before her solids, but i am still concerned as to whether she is getting enough? she basically has 6-8oz 3 x day plus 10 mins bf before bed. does this sound like enough for a 7 month old? she seems hungry at mealtimes but not in between..
any advice would be greatly welcomed!! thank you!

In the UK a minimum of 20oz is recommended from 6 months. Any milk you use in cereal and foods also counts so it sounds like your lo is having enough. If your current routine works for you then I'd personally just keep on with it. Different routines suit different people/babies and what works for one might not work for another.
