2 year old crying at naptime
« on: July 11, 2008, 18:09:52 pm »
It's never long, less than 1 minute usually.  But its hard to leave the room sometimes because thats when the crying starts.  If I stay in the room, he'd never go to sleep.

Maybe its just part of his wind-down, but it makes me a little nutty sometimes.  :P

Have experimented with "A" times, but he's done this for most of his short life!

Night time is completely different, no crying and goes right to sleep.

what happens when you leave the room.
I find my DS cries out for a few seconds when I lay him down--after I close the door, he stops and starts his "chanting" (his self soothing). It's almost liuke he "fake" cries to see if he can get me to stay around.
I just tell him I love him and I'll see him when he wakes from his nap.

WHen I leave the room, often times he's on his way towards the door to follow me. - or in his bed reaching for me.  (He's in a BBB)  I talk to him through the door, tell him that its time to lay down and go night-night and that he's alright and mommy is right here, I love you, etc.

Usually that stops it, there might be some mantra crying after that, but nothing major.  But days like today, it was a bit longer (maybe 1.5 mins) and I had to repeat my reassurances.

When I read this, I guess its nothing major.  Its just not my ideal.

Hi,
My DD who is nearly 2 has just started doing this too,it happened after we got back from a long weekend break, where she was a little unsettled at bedtime..strange place, not her cot etc..she took 10 mins to fall asleep after crying.when we got back home, she started crying when I put her down for her nap,and at bedtime too, only for literally 30 seconds to a minute, then she falls asleep.I think it is a bit of separation anxiety taking place again, she doesn't want mum to leave!.She doesn't do it with my husband, when he puts her down for her nap,so guess this is probably the case.My friend went through the same thing, with her DD at this age too,she was told,it is a typical thing that toddlers do at this age, resistance to sleep.I've had to cut Lilys nap down, and move it later,as she was taking 1/2 hr or so to fall asleep at night, she now falls asleep within minutes again, and is waking later,so hopefully thats worked. There's always some sort of challenge isn't there to keep us on our toes! Hope this helps!

He went to a BBB at 20 months.  The first few weeks were stinky, but now he's doing very well with it, so I'm afraid I can't blame the crying on that!  ;)

I thought it was maybe just me, but he did it for dh over the weekend, so it sounds like part of his wind down.

I shouldn't fuss too much about it, he napped for 2.5 hours today!   ;D  For all of the nap issues we've had, he's turned into a good little napper!

Thanks,
Cindy

I think I've jinxed myself; my DS's little mantra "cry/complaint" has turned into pure he** at nap times. Screaming for 15-30 minutes. Fine at bed times. He just moved to a new daycare room and he has had diarrhea for likek 10 days!!!! so I would think these factors may play a role, I may be making my own post soon  :P  :P
I'm glad your situation is improving.
