How do you store cow's milk for a day out?
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:36:36 am »
Sorry if this sounds like a silly question!!  ;D

DS is almost 1 ( :o ) so will be moving onto cow's milk. At the mo he is on formula and obviously for a day out I take a bottle of water and add the formula when ready to feed. How do you store cow's milk so that it still drinkable hours later? Is it as simple as an ice pack? Will that keep it fresh enough?

Once DS hit one (actually at 11.5 months) , I cut the mid-day formula feed out and just left it at a morning and night bottle of formula.  I think that's pretty normal at 1yo as solids become their main source of food and not formula/milk, so 2x8oz bottles is enough milk for them. I started it at first by not taking a bottle for him when we were going to be out in the day, and he was usually so distracted by whatever was going on that he didn't notice. Days at home I cut the feed down gradually and once he was only taking 2-3ounces just stopped offering it.

So not really an answer to the storage question, but this way there is no need to worry about it, kwim?  Otherwise, I'd just go for an ice pack in a cooler box. HTH.

Ice pack in a cooler or just a thermos.  I got once in mothercare use it for milk or for talking soup or spaghetti hoops out!

Yes, I do plan to start to cut the middle bottle out so that would help with the storage issue!

Will use an ice pack and cooler in the meantime then. Thanks ladies!
