someone tell me this will pass...
« on: August 06, 2008, 21:17:05 pm »
ok... I am in tears...  :'(

DS had a nap this morning at 9am... slept for 1.5hrs (I was trying to sleep so dh took care of him but I don't know why he WOKE him after 1.5hrs!  He was up 4times last night and I feel like he would have had a 2hr nap... grrrrr I am so frustrated).  I drove DH to work at noon and ds fell asleep at 12:30 in car.  We were stuck in traffic until I was able to get home at 1:30... so he was asleep for an hour...

He won't go down for another nap.  He's been up for 3hrs and usually will go down after like 2.5... but he started showing cues at 2hrs so I tried then and have been for the last hour... we had an awful night and he was sooooo ot last night because the same thing happened yesterday.

He is crawling around my feed enjoying the dogs toys at the moment.  He isn't crying, he isn't hungry, he just smiled at me ... Does this mean he wants to go until 7 to sleep?  .... what do I do now... I'm so exhausted and feel like such a poor mommy... :(

any advice?
Heather

Can you give him a catnap to get him through until bedtime?  If not, try not to panic.  He will probably be OT, so you know what that looks like... just roll with it and try again tomorrow.  The great thing about babies is that they always give us another opportunity to get it right!   Besides, sounds like it's way too much fun exploring for him right now!  ;D

Heather, you are not a bad mom at ALL. Come on now you know better! ;)

I agree with the catnap idea, that's what I would do personally. And tomorrow is a new day!

After re reading my post I realized that I was a bit emotional.  I have just had a reallly bad week and this is just topping it!  After fights with numerous people (including my therapist) I just don't feel like I know what I'm doing!  All DH has to do to get him to sleep is hold him and hum to him... this has happened a few times in the past week just because he wouldn't go down for us... ok ok ok... enough of my blah blahing!  :P

le sigh... I was finally able to get him down for about half an hour but now EVERY time I take him into his bedroom he screams bloody murder!!!  What have I done???

If it makes you feel any better, Colin always went to sleep much, much better for DH than for me. Until fairly recently as a matter of fact - but now it's the other way around!

That's probably because the dads are APing their way through - not enough to cause problems but enough to make them look good.  ;D  ;)  If it were my DH and he could BF, he'd feed our LO at every night-time peep!  Instead he just suggests I do it as he rolls over to go back to sleep! ::) ;D

Sorry it's so rough right now, Heather.  Hopefully things get ironed out for you soon.  Oh, and our LOs pick up our stress level and mirror it back, so perhaps Stan was feeding off of your rotten day.  Not that you can change it, but at least it helps you understand why it's happening.

You know, I didn't even think about the mirroring our children do... because for bedtime I was calm and collected and he went down much better for me... My frustration levels are on full and I need a day off.

DH will be giving me one this weekend... I need it,

(ps. I can totally see dh rolling over saying- just feed him.  That's why when Stan wakes at night I quickly get up before dh can even wake... sneaky me ;) )

thanks again :)
