BBB- the time has finally come and I need some advice :)
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:52:38 am »
Jack doesnt climb out of his cot much BUT I am of the opinion that he CAN climb out and therefore he could hurt himself. His BBB arrived yest.  Have a few Q's

We move in 20 days, should i transition him now, rather than when we move as dont want him to be moved house and then ousted out of his cot

We have an air cooler in their room as it gets so hot, it does white noise, it is on the floor. He can get to the plugs if hes in a bbb
Ditto to the monitor.
Wardrobes and draws will need locks I presume

He shares a room with his sister and will be in the new house

How do I do this transition without him waking his sis? He did so well in a BBB on hols, but slept in with daddy. He is the kind who crashes out to sleep in 2 mins flat, I think he will in a BBB too so am praying this is the case so he doesnt keep little sis up lol

Soooooo am frightened about plugs........... what do I do???

When we move I want to have Abbi in the cot and Jack in his bed, but if we transition here at this home first, am so worried about the safety implications. In the new house we are going to use a wall mounted fan for white noise, and a stair gate and no monitor as rooms are right next to each other and leave their door open when we go bed. The house is small

OK, this is all muddled so sorry  :-[ :-[

WWYD?

Any thoughts appreciated

PS ahhhhh the new bed looks CUTE! Blue wood so sweet!

Hi Emma - No advice about the bed (hopefully I have a while before I need to cross that bridge!) but the plugs I have a solution - about to order them for DS's obession with switching plugs on and off.

I'm sure you'll be able to get them other places too.

Hey, we changed LO to big bed a couple of months ago, she was fine, aprt from the tiny footsteps running across the ceiling, when we were in the lounge! All our plugs we have put wardrobes or draws in front of.
I think it be good to change when you have moved, say look you a big bot now witha big boy bed, like a present- a good thing!
The cooler & monitor could so on shelf, or outside door if you have stair gate? Actually just read you found a solution,ha ha!

Its lovely having them in a big bed, can give big goodnight kiss with no bar in your belly!
Also I wouldn't worry about a bed guard our LO has never fallen out!

I def think the monitor on the shelf would work, cause am now thinking Id like to hear them when I am downstairs :) Glad to hear about the bed guard, this is the bed we have got, guarded at the top :)

What a bargain too, came with a mattress :) :) :)

Also maybe a wardrobe COULD go in front of the plug

So do you not think transitioning before moving would be better? Was just thinking maybe being stressed from the move and transitioning might make him upset.  Hmmmmmm, I hate making decisions lol! xxxxxx

Emma

when Luke moved into his BBB, we did it when we moved as well. However, the BBB had been set up in his room in our old house, alongside his cot for a couple of weeks and we used to sit on it to read stories before going to sleep. When we moved, I set the cot and bed up in his new room again and after a few nights asked if he wanted to sleep in the BBB and he said yes. That was it.

If it was possible for you to do it that way, that's what I'd suggest but I guess it wouldn't be that easy as he's sharing with Abbi?

I would think if he slept in it well enough on holiday that he should sleep in it well enough in his room. Can you show him the picture of it and start telling him about his BBB and how grown up he is now so that he gets used to the idea before it arrives? Ask him if he would like to sleep in it when it arrives (assuming it arrives before you move) or would he like his new bed for his new room in the new house - kinda thing?

Thanks all for all your help.  We have decided that we are going to do it tonight *gulp* Its took a lot of discussion with dh, but we feel that as Jack is such a creature of comfort, that to put him in a new house AND a new bed, wouldnt work, the new bedroom is too small for the bed to be beside his cot kwim, to get him used to it. I thought maybe if I get him used to his new bed, moving house wont be as traumatic as he will be in his bed at least? Does that make sense?  He really is a stickler for things always being the "same", so want to do it gently as possible.  We have ordered a gate for his room, and DH is gonna make up the bed once hes took all the boxes over to store at a relative. My house is now looking rather naked lol.

Thanks for all your advice, its definately made me think carefully. We made a big thing of the bed, he seems very very very excited! xxxx

Aww bless him - I'm sure he will love it and if he's gotten used to it now, then it's one less thing for him to get used to in the new house!  ;D

Good thinking batman!!  8)

Bit of pratting about going on, he doesnt dare get out of the bed, as far as I can tell, but is singing, shouting to abbi etc. Gone quiet (him) but dd is still singing, shes being a bit funny going sleep the last few nights anyway.

They both fell asleep at 8:45 last night, *sigh* putting ds down before dd tonight as if he is already asleep her singing is unlikely to wake her up

Wish me luck!
