Can lack of solids make Baby REALLY hungry?
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:14:33 am »
ok... so ds hasn't really had a very strict diet of solids as we focus on his milk intake and have the solids for "fun", but I'm wondering now after about a week of no solids (as he was very constipated/horrible naps/nw) if the lack of something else in his tummy has made him hungrier by the end of the day???  Is there such a thing as wanting solids because it feels different in his tummy (ie feel fuller?), could he even know that at this age the difference when it has been so spiratic??

Even though others will say different i say that solids can help fill them up.

You know, I am kind of torn on this. On the one hand, I 100% agree that milk is the most important thing and they can get all they need from that.

On the other, for some, at a certain age, I think they may feel the need for more. For example, I could drink milkshakes all day and get a great amount of calories that way, but it would not be as filling to my tummy as a baked potato for example (okay, that was a bad example as I would much prefer a milkshake anyway, but hopefully ykwim).

Kate is your guys age now, just breastfeeding, may eat a bite or two or something the whole day long. Def healthy and thriving, but I don't know....I am ready for her to start eating something now too. Riley ate very little solids until gone the year mark, and he weighed over 30lbs by that stage. I was hoping for more of a balance this time round, but she is doing what she needs to do, I guess!

Thanks, we are having a huge sleep issue right now and want to look at it from all angles... He hasn't ever "needed" solids before so i assume this is something else, but I think I should be more consistent with it, perhaps just once a day and stick to it.  give less or more depending on how his little tummy is taking it... just thought I would ask.  Also glad to hear I'm not alone on the "occasional" solids boat :) thanks
