22 Month Old NWS
« on: January 06, 2009, 07:43:05 am »
Hi all we have been here a few times before but I am lost for ideas so back again ::) DS is 22 mo and has generally been a good sleeper but lately he has been having nws lasting anything up to 2 hrs and I don't know why or what to do about it? His routine looks pretty good on paper but there must be something I am missing for this to keep happening? He has only slept through once since new years and that was when he stayed with his grandparents so maybe it is me?

Routine looks like this
Wake - 7am (I have taken to waking him as after nws he would sleep till 8.30ish but then naps screwed up)
Nap - 12-2pm ( also generally have to wake him here but if he sleeps after 2pm bedtime a nightmare)
Bed - 7pm (usually goes straight to sleep but sometimes have to go back to settle him)

So he generally self settles for bed and naptime, I occasionally have to go to him at bedtime but don't have to stay long and I'm not in the room when he falls asleep. When he wakes at night I will hear him calling out for me but don't go until he starts to cry but as soon as I am in the room he is fine and is asking to get up or have the light on, he seems wide awake and ready to play. I try and keep really quiet and just tell him it's sleep time etc but as soon as I leave the room he gets upset again. If I stay in the room he will settle down but will keep calling out to check I am still there, I just don't know what to do anymore. I am 22wks pg with twins and am knackered all the time anyway without this ::) Thanks in advance Niki x

 :o  :o  Congratulations!!  ;D

Have you tried shortening his nap to 1.5 hours? It sounds to me like maybe he's undertired.

Thank you ;D It's funny you say about shortening the nap as yesterday dh had him and he only slept for 1hr 20mins and he pretty much sttn, woke briefly at 11.45pm but only needed a quick cuddle then he slept thru till 7.10am, typical ::) So maybe we will try that for a few days and see how it goes, I told dh that if he keeps this up sleeping for everyone else but me that he will have to give up work and have ds full time ;D
