9 weeks old - extending naps to 1.5 hours?

My 9w DS is on a rough 3 hour EASY pattern, and has started self settling at the start of naps v. well. He has about 1.25 - 1.5 hours A time prior to this. He has swaddle, dummy and white noise for naps.

However, when he wakes at the 45 min mark he isa nightmare to re setttle. He will go back off for 5 or 10 mins butr keeps waking and needing settling again.

What can I try, or is 9w too young for 1.5 hour naps?

hi
9 weeks isn't too young for long naps but it is very young to be able to do it well.  at this age they need a lot of sleep and short A times and still may need a lot of help to get to and stay asleep :)

also, with so much time resettling and only 10 min on and off sleep at the end of a nap,  1.5 hours A time is likely way too long after this.  i would shorten up your A  times to 45 min to 60 min after a noncontinuous nap like this and see how that goes.

Thanks brenda

I've tried shortening the A time, and that means that he ends up with A for 45 mins, asleep for 45 mins, then I have to find some way of settling him for 1.5 hours till his next feed - impossible with a toddler!

What do I do if he only sleeps for 45 mins, but isn't happy to be awake afterwards - I'd end up feeding him every 1.5 hours?  I love our sling, as does he, but he is simply too heavy for me to carry for 1.5 hours.

What sort of age do they start to get the 1.5 hour naps? I can't remember how old DD was when she became the good sleeper that she is.

when i say shortening up the A time this means that if he does a short nap he may need another short nap before feed time.  so you may end up with EASAS.  kwim?  if he does a short nap he shouldn't be awake afterwards for 1.5 hours.  that is too long and will end up with him being OT.   if he does a short nap and you can't resettle him right away back to sleep get him up for a short 45 min A time and try to resettle him for another nap  before the next feed is due.

they can get 1.5 hour naps right from day one if you get the A time right.  if you are keeping him up too long though it will be hard for him to sleep and stay asleep.
