Sleeping w/construction/demo???
« on: September 09, 2008, 19:11:09 pm »
HELP!
We're having some minor demo/construction going on at our place over the next week.
In our son's playroom  :-\
I'm really concerned about his naps!
Anyone have ideas as to keeping to schedule/naps with saws/hammering?
I took him to his babysitter's home today, but he wouldn't nap at her place. :(
He just cried mamamamamamamama when put into the crib. He's really spirited and curious little 13 mo.
I could drive him around for errands and hope he sleeps in the car, but honestly, he doesn't sleep well unless he's in his own little bed. UGH.
I'm dealing with rain and no playroom too.
 :P
Any ideas?

Is he a light or heavy sleeper ? I was surprised that my LO slept through anything . The week he came home from hospital he was in a moses basket in our living room with DP using power tools in the same room  :o and has slept through everything since. If you manage to get him to nap before the work starts he may just sleep through it .Could they not have their dinner break during LO's nap time ? I don't think white noise machine is going to drown out much .Could you have him nap in a room furthest from the banging ?

Light sleeper- distant thunder wakes him...
We're still on 2 naps a day, but I may try to hold him off till 11:30- during their lunch.
His room is on the opposite side of the house, but near a stairwell that carries noise up.
I'm armed with a fan, CD player, and sleep sheep...
Hoping they can try to do the less noisy stuff after lunch to try and buy an extra 30 mins of undisturbed nap. Ugh. I'm going to need an overdose of extra patience this week.

No ideas. . . just wishing you luck and watching with interest! Let me know if you find anything to work.

We plan some construction in a few months, and I'm worried about the same. My 4 month old I think will be fine (angel baby; if he misses a nap, he's pleasant as can be and he sleeps twice as long the next time). . . it's the two year old I'm worried about (a spirited, light sleeper like yours--any change whatsoever, and naps are wretched).

Boy, I do whine about Nick's sleeping, but it's justified. I'm sooooo lucky if he stays asleep 9 hours a night. sooooo active and inquisitive,  Plus, I'm a bit worried about the plastic tarps they are putting in as a barrier to all the dust. I'll let you know how it goes. Yikes...

Hi Ladies- quick update.
we had a crazy week- construction crew was delayed for 2 days, then we all got sick. First DH, who still managed to get into work- through the power of coffee and dayquil.
Next, Nick who cried from 1-4 AM for two nights- he was up every 10-20 mins....ugh...poor little boy. Now it's me with the stuffed up sinuses, scratchy throat and body aches!! Woohoo- what fun.
The good news is that our 2nd floor is now stable since they put in a beam to replace the missing load bearing wall. YIKES! I'm so glad the floor doesn't sag as you walk across it now. That was scary.
Um,,,Nick was terrified of the sawsall and hammering at first, so we went to the park for the morning and he slept for an hour between the car and the workers' lunch break, then I took him to the babysitter's place inthe afternoon thinking he might rest there...nope...didn't work. DH went to pick him up early-very unhappy OT child...Yesterday it was nice out so between the MD appts we played in the sunshine, slept in the car and during the breaks... Today I was pitiful, drippy nose, blah blah whine whine. I wound up limping around the mall with him and let him play on the little cars/rides there. He slept for 2o mins in the car, then was AWAKE until 1:30. Crashed for his PM nap until 3 pm and went down for good at 8 PM. SO, not so bad, but I'll be glad when all the work is done. 2 more days.... That is,...until our roof gets done next month!!LOL - I must like self torture....
