Bad dreams??
« on: September 28, 2008, 06:32:34 am »
Our wee boy who is 22 months has been an awesome sleeper all his little life....BUT

For now 2 wks he wakes 1-3 times in night suddenly with a scream! I go in saying 'its ok go to sleep' then hes bac asleep...??? almost cries in his sleep a bad dream??

When I just left him to have a cry he worked himself right up - he just needs to hear our voice then hes fine?

Any ideas or suggestions

thanks heaps   ???

COULD be night terrors - http://www.babycenter.com/404_why-is-my-toddler-suddenly-waking-up-hysterical-at-night_1292621.bc    Does any of this sound familiar? If so you are doing the right thing and they will go of their own accord

Otherwise, could be a bit of SA? If he goes straight back off, I would be more inclined to say night terrors or nightmares.

Sounds like night terrors to me too.  Not a whole lot you can do if that's the case, but wait for it to be over.  Moms I've talked to have found night terror appear to be more frequent during growth spurts and teething phases.

If it happens the first 1-3 hours after falling asleep, it's probably Nightterrors- if it happens closer to the end of his sleeping, it's probably something else. True NTs usually happen in the early phases of sleep.
Nick has these usually when he is making major strides with a motor milestone or if he's been OT for some reason.
If it is NTs, usually the scream is very high pitched and eerie- very upsetting to hear...

thanks heaps for that info.
he has been OT often going to bed latley - sometimes falling asleep thru dinner! he copes well tho cos hes an 'angel'
i also thought cos ive got a 7wk old this could be his reaction to new baby in house and cause she not sleeping well in day my attention is based on her
im not too worried hope it passes
