Short naps 5 months next week
« on: October 04, 2008, 20:14:24 pm »
Hi

I have another thread on the EASY forum which has been very helpful but I wanted to ask a question about when I feed if she is waking after 45 mins.  She was taking 2 2 hour sleeps and a catnap before bath, a beautiful little sleeper, now most of her sleeps are 45 mins. (She is 5 months next week). We were on a 3.5 hour EASY trying to move to a 4 hour.  If she is waking after 45 mins she is then due for a sleep when it is her feed time - so when should I be feeding her?

Another question is what are developmental short naps?

Last question is if she is waking happy I should get her up or leave her to try and settle again?  She almost always wakes happy, babbling and squealing and if I leave her she begins to cry.  I am confused as to whether to get her up or not.  When she does cry I have been trying to ssh/pat (not terrbily successfully although it used to work like a charm).  Should I leave her until she cries and keep trying ssh/pat?

These 45 min naps are a killer - I am a nervous wreck everytime I see the clock tick to 45 minutes and have absolutely everything crossed that she will make it through.  When she doesn't I just cry......

Thanks for your advice.

My LO also wakes up happy after her short naps so I just go with the flow as I haven't got the heart to make her cry just because she is 'supposed' to take longer naps.  Is your LO sleeping well at night?  If so then your baby may just not need that much sleep.  Tracy says this herself in TBWSAYP.  My first one was also a short napper and looking back I spent way too much time stressing over it instead of just accepting that's how she was, and getting on with the day and enjoying her.  She lengthened her naps when they reduced to about 2 a day I think and definitely when she went to one a day.  Try not to get too stressed about it.  HTH.

Thanks for that.  She was sleeping through from 7 to 6.40 but has recently been waking at around 4 or 5 in the morning.  I have been feeding her and putting her back down and she has generally gone back to sleep.  I will try and go with the flow...... it is just so hard seeing my beautiful, gorgeous, placid wee girl getting so tired and grumpy.

Thanks again.

sounds as though her her A times need stretching out a bit if she is waking happy. I agree though that timing the feeds is very tricky around 45min naps.
