DS is just over 11 months. He was doing one long nap and one short one for  awhile..since about 9 months or so. His A time in the morning was always 4 hours, followed by another of 4-4.5 hours, followed by the shortest of 3 hours before bedtime.
This was his routine give or take

7am wake
11-1230 sleep
430 or 5 sleep for 30 min
bed 8/830

Then we went through a period where the second A time stretched to 5 hours and it was hard to fit two naps in. So we tried for one nap..OT set in but he recovered OK. Took abouta week or so. Then he started crawling and cruising..now his A time in the morning is about 3 hours or so, which imo that is too short for his age..the second is between 4-4.5 hours and the last around 3-3.5 BUT lately his daytime naps and night sleep have been  long. This was yesterday...after a full nights sleep the night before from 830-745am

745 wake
nap 11-1230 (I woke him)
nap 445-600 (I woke him)
bedtime 830 (VERY short A time)

and still slept through this morning till 745ish.

I dont know what is going on or if he is more tired because he is moving more but I am going back to work in two weeks and was really trying for one nap but it doesnt look like we are going there anytime soon...

Hi,

My DD1 needed to reduce her A times when she became more mobile too - for her it was just a lot of work and she got tired quicker.  So, I think it can definately be the case for some kids!  It sounds like you are really cued into your child, so I say follow your instincts, things seem to be going well for you.  I know it would be nice to just make that transition to one nap when you'd like it to happen, but it can take SO long to work itself out!  In our case, it was a good 3-4 months.  I know some kids can do it quicker, but it wasn't that way at our house.  Anyway, I say go with what is working!

thanks, hopefully he sorts it all out within himself soon. he will be staying with my mom and mil while i go to work and i know two naps and all the A time stuff confuses them, i just want to make it easier for them but one nap too soon means OT and NW for us..

I know what you mean - so many people think I am obsessive about sleep/awake times, etc., with my kids, but you and I both know what the benefits are - good sleep habits, and happier kids!  Even though BW works best when you watch for cues, maybe typing up a general schedule to follow will help your family members get the hang of it.  And then you can watch for changes on the weekends and adjust as best you can as things change.  Good luck!
