big HUGS----I can understand your feelings about him not being happy and appearing tired etc....sleep training really is a very difficult and emotional time for everyone......there was alot of crying for both my son and myself..but the I knew it was all worth it when I was finally able to do windown and leave and he fussed a bit but but fell asleep on his own..I was so shocked and happy I had to call a fellow BW (who had been helping me ) with the good news!

like I said this is all short term..

I was very worried about OT---I called my friend every day saying, he is too OT, this isnt going to work and I am being cruel...but she reminded me "what choice do you have", so I kept going. And afterwards it did [ay off because I think he got better rested after he was able to fall asleep independently.

we have only just at the age of 6months started to get longer naps and more of a rouitne. I have a spirited chap, but my older DS was exactly the same way so I had experience.

I think perhaps visit the pupd FAQ boards--there are great age appropriate pupd info.

ditch the soother==might as well since you are sleep training anyhow.

How long did it take you for him to fall asleep on his own?  We've had this happen a few times, but then others seem like a royal struggle!
You are right with what choice do you have...but to move forward.  I am imagining my whole holiday of family visiting will be spent in our room trying to get my lo (also Noah!) to sleep....
He is SO attached to the soother - I don't think we could get rid of it just yet??
So how long from when you started training (forget which age you started?) until 6 months did the longer naps take?  I know each case it different, but having success stories helps...

well I think the first step to achieving longer naps is independent sleep in the first place..

the second thing about achieving longer naps is finding the right amount of A time

the third thing is that for some babies they just come with time and development...babies work on night sleep first and then day sleep, so some babies to not get the day sleep sorted until they are 6 months old---when they somehow finally reach the developmental stage that allows them to go from one sleep cycle (40min)to the next.

so I have spent the last 2-3months trying to figure out the right A time and to extend too short of naps...two weeks ago something finally clicked...
but then today was a struggle again....
so the short naps are a pain but you just do the best you can.
