how many bf for 8 month old?
« on: December 01, 2008, 14:16:46 pm »
Hi worried mum that i am....

My DS just turned 8 months old.  He's having 3 bfs (am, 2:30pm, and pm) and also having yoghurt (1/4 cup) twice a day.  I'm wondering if this is enough?

I plan to bf till one year old and am working at slowly dropping feeds.

thanks for your help

Hi i think at 8mths we were still doing 4 feeds. Is it just that you want to wean him of the breast that your only doing 3? 'MILK' should still be the main source of food till you are heading to a yr :)

You really should be giving him at least four feeds a day until 10 months minimum.  It's important to remember that milk should be his primary source of nutrition until 12 months.  Solid food before this age is purely for practice purposes.

If you want to be weaning him from the breast earlier than 1 year by cutting down on the number of breast feeds, then you should be replacing the feed you've dropped with formula - so he should be getting at least four milk feeds in 24 hrs - be it breast milk or formula...
