« on: December 12, 2008, 12:16:22 pm »
Hiya, Iv just started feeding my baby rice, shes been having it now for about a week and a half just three spoons a day once a day which i will up to twice a day in a week. Anyway she keeps spitting it out and dosnt seem to be taking to it at all, does it take a while before they start to want to eat it? and when do i change from baby rice to fruit and veg?

here in australia the recommendation is to start at 6 months, not everyone here waits this long and i am not saying that you should as i started earlier than that, it is early days for you dd, she will eventally eat, give her time, eating is different to sucking milk

She is still young and she may not be ready for solids.  Is she showing signs of being ready?  Have you looked at this?  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=36922.0

Eating is very different to sucking milk so it will take time.  Don't feel rushed just follow her lead and you will do fine.  Just remember that milk is very important to a baby until 12 mos.  Solids is just for fun, experimenting with textures and taste.

Are you breastfeeding? I have recently learned that babies have what's called a leaky gut until around 6mos. There are holes in the gut to allow antibodies in milk to easily get into the bloodstream and starting solids before the gut closes can actually be damaging to the stomach and cause allergies. You might consider waiting a bit to start.
