27m old with early wakings but good sleep and nap
« on: December 12, 2008, 23:23:26 pm »
Hi
Max is 27mths old and over the last couple of days he has started waking between 5 and 6am, not good for mum,  I have tried putting him back to sleep but to no avail.  He goes to sleep about 7.30pm and generally sleeps all night fine.  He is still having a nap during the day at 12.30 for about 1.5 to 2 hours.  Am wondering whether he is getting ready to drop the nap!!  Should I start limiting his nap to 1 hour, is he getting too much sleep during the day, and so doesn't need so much at night. Or should I just give him a nap every 2nd day?  If he gets OT we have alot of night wakings, which I really don't want. I would rather have a 12 hour night and no nap than a shorter night and nap.
Any advice would be welcome.  Cheers

Hi
I didn't receive a reply to my last post, so I thought that I would just post what I have done to try and solve the problem and see whether anyone has any advice.
Having read alot of other posts, I decided to put ds to sleep for his day nap earlier, at 11.30 instead of 12.30, which would hopefully mean that he wouldn't be so ot and would have a good sleep.  In the last 5 days I have been doing this, the first 3 he slept from 12 till 1.30, and then I put him to bed earlier for the night, at 6.45, he would generally be asleep by 7pm, which meant he would get more sleep at night, but he would still wake early between 5.30 and 6am.
We are still having nw as well, I believe due to ot.  Yesterday he slept from 12 noon to 2pm when I woke him to try and preserve his bedtime, and he was grumpy in the afternoon, he didn't go to sleep till 7.30 and we had 3 night wakings and a wake up at 5.40.  Too early for mum.
Today he woke at 5.40 and I then put him to bed at 11.30, he was asleep by 12 and then woke crying at 1pm because he was hot, he was grumpy and naughty (one of his ot signs) all afternoon, put him to bed at 6.30, he was asleep at 7pm, and not sure what the night and morning hold.
It seems just when I think we are getting back on track, it all falls apart again.
Any advice this time would be appreciated.
Cheers

hi there,

is he getting his molars? sometimes this just adds to the mix. I would also try maybe a little earlier bedtime. try for 6? i would keep the nap time at 11.30 with lots of wind down for now.
