3 weeks on BLW - time to drop Dream Feed?
« on: January 25, 2009, 00:31:39 am »

My 2nd child of nearly 7 months has been on EASY from day 1. It has worked really well (as with my 1st child my ds - now 4& 1/2 years)  with her sleeping thru at just over 2 months. She and her brother both go to bed at 7pm and rise at 7am so I can't complain! I ususally do a dream feed with her about 10pm and I know Tracey advised it could be stopped around 7 months.

I also started Baby Led Weaning with her 3 weeks ago when she was bang on 6 months. I think she's doing OK. As well as all her usual milk feeds she eats about 1/2 a wheetabix for breakfast, something like a couple of strips of cheese on toast for dinner, then maybe a bit of banana. For evening meal she has something like a couple of pasta tubes, 2 or 3 strips of veg, bit of meat and maybe more banana! I do a last milk feed with her at 5.30 before bath at 6pm.

Unusually, in the last few days she has been waking quite early from the 2 long daytime naps. I remember from my book that around this age they can give up the last 1 hour nap. Therefore, today I have decided to adjust her naps a bit and drop the last one to see if that gets her back on track with the others.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if she seems to be having enough food to allow me to drop the dream now?

Welcome to BW!

So glad to hear that BLW is working for you.  It's really hard to say if you drop the DF and she will still STTN.  How's her feed?  Is it still a full feed or has it been less than normal since she started solids.  You can always it a try and see if she doesn't really need the DF.  Is she on formula or bm?  If you intend to drop the DF, then it's suggested that you do it gradually.  The ladies in the appropriate board can help and guide you through.  (I did cold turkey at 5 mos with dd and ds never took took the df).

Just remember that her milk intake doesn't decrease too much as milk is still more nutritious and important at her age.

Good luck!

Hi. Thanks for that.  Been searching and searching for advice on this one.  She is taking full bf's besides what solids she's having.  Prior to BLW she was exclusively BF.  I will try and find how to reduce the df gradually.

Thanks ever so much for that - just been looking at it.  It seems pretty straightforward - I have the book it mentions so will look also look it all up on p123 tomorrow too!  Don't know why I've not thought to look on here before in the pages of wonderful advice!  Miss seeing Tracey's programmes on tv - loved to watch them the first time round with my ds.  Are they ever on now does anyone know - I have tried to find them a few times.
