trouble getting LO down for AM nap. FRUSTRATED!
« on: January 23, 2009, 14:31:50 pm »
I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the EASY forum, maybe I'll post it there too. but I'm having a hard time with AM naps. I don't know if I'm reading his cues wrong? or what's going on, but it's so frustrating! He's almost 8 months old, nurses between 5 and 6 times a day and gets luch and dinner of solids at this point.

he's been waking up between 7 and 7:30 so he'll nurse around 7:30 at the latest
A(play time on the floor)
then he gets fussy, and he'll usually start rooting towards me like he wants to eat again. but if I'm doing EASY then it should be nap time now!
so usually I'll try to put him down for a nap. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I try to be very consistent. go to his room, pull the blinds, put on his music, and rock him in the chair. but at that point he doesn't seem all that tired anymore. sometimes I'll end up nursinghim again, but I don't want him to start nursing to fall asleep again, we just brok that habit about a month ago. if he doesn't nap, I usually feed him again and then do A time again till he seems tired. if that's the case, he'll get a later AM nap aroun 10:30.
I just feel so clueless. the other thing is that he figured out how to get into a sitting up psition so that's what he does in his crib all the time now.
the rest of the day is
after nap  he Nurses
A
lunch of solids 1.5 jars of fruit and veggie at 1:00
2:30 Nurse, A time on floor
3 ish nap till 5 or so
then dinner at 6
bath massage, nurse and to bed around 7:30
he has been sttn for about a month now since I got him off the night feeding.

I feel very lost, and clueless like I'm doing it all wrong!

It sounds like you are doing great!  If he is getting up at 7:30, then a nap at 10:30 doesn't sound too out of whack, my 6 month old is up to about 2hr 45min of A time, so 3 hours sounds reasonable. Could he just be getting fussy because he is bored? (I found out from another BW that this was Spencer's problem) How long is his morning nap?

Not sure about the sitting up, haven't gotten there yet! I know that developmental stuff can affect sleep, do you practice sitting up with him during A time?

How long is his morning nap when he takes it?  If he sleeps for 1.5 hours, then you're golden.  Heidi is right, LOs his age can usually handle 3 to 4 hours of A time, so your routine looks good to me.  :)
