I'm a 22 year old first time mum and I've only just learned that babies need some sort of routine (or so I am told). I have only in the last hour discovered this site and am already hooked. The advice people are giving out seems invaluable - and most of it is completely foreign to me. (And I haven't caught up with the abbreviations yet!)
My 3 month old boy is a normal healthy boy, no health problems (except his left eye which has been sticky since birth - undeveloped tear duct?) and has up until recently been pretty placid. I've been happy to go with the flow as I'm only back at work one day (partner is a policeman) and do not have time restraints or my own schedule to stick to. However I plan to be going back to study at the end of the month and think now that an established routine would help greatly with allowing me to get some study time in.
At the moment Jack's waking at anywhere between 5am-6.30am, is feeding every three hours (hoping to take it to four-hourly) but tends to do 20 minute power naps whenever he crashes out at various times during the day. I think we got into a bad habit early on of just letting him fall asleep anywhere so now when I try to put him in his bassinet for a daytime nap, he won't have it. Also in the last few days he's had two absolute hissy fits every day (which he's never done before) and nothing seems to calm him down and then he'll crash. Overstimulation, maybe?
Sorry, it sounds as though I need a 24 hour mentor here! None of my friends have babies and I've had little time around any others before my own so I feel pretty lost. I'm looking for someone to give me some pointers to help get some sort of order into our day - naps and feeding. I'm open to any method!
Look forward to getting some feedback. Thank you!
