my baby wakes all night
« on: February 01, 2009, 20:20:25 pm »
i really need some help. i have a 13 month old little girl, who wakes alot in the night. i am also struggling to get her to have a longer nap in the day. here is her routine:
7.00 she wakes and has some milk.
8:00 breakfast
then its play time.
11:00 i try to get her to have a nap, she crys for about 15 mins then goes off, with me stroking her head.
she Only sleeps for about 30-1hr
12:30 lunch time
the play
2:30 again i try to get her to go to sleep, but she rarely goes down, she screams for over an hour, then i get her up.
more play or we go out for fresh air
5:00 tea time
6:00 bath
then by this point she is so tired i have to put her to bed before 6:30.
she then wakes 4-5 times a night. she will scream until i go to her and stay sitting with her until she falls asleep, but she will wake again soon after and we go through it all again and all night.
during the day she screams nonstop if i am not in the room and i can not get anything done.
am i doing something wrong? please help me i am willing to try any thing.
this is my 2ND baby and i never had this problem the first time round and i really don't know what to do.  Shelly

Hi and welcome to BW!

Since your LO is over 1 year old, I'm going to send this over to Toddler Sleep for you!

Hi mummymoo - welcome to the BW boards!

I think your LO could be really overtired, which could definitely lead to night wakings. When she goes down for a nap, how are you settling her? Does she respond to shh-pat? I'd try putting her down for her morning nap earlier, maybe around 10am, and see if that helps her to go to sleep easier, it may just be that 4 hours A time is just a bit too much for her.

I agree with Jay it does sound like some SA is in there too. There a post here about how to choose between doing WIWO or GW for separation anxiety: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=80750.0

Hope something here is helpful - let us know what you decide...

thanks to you all for your suggestions, i too think she is over tired and i am going to try putting her down for her nap earlier, i am also going to try GR method and see if that works, has any one got any ideas for the SA during the day, she just cries no stop if i am not in the roon with her while she plays. but when i am in the roon she just plays quite happy oh her own or with my 3yr old. but as soon as i leave she will scream the house down. shelly

hi everyone. thanks for all your tips. she now goes down for a 2 hour nap in the day really well. falls asleep really quickley and stays there for 2 hours. great thanks.
and at night she goes to bed at 6.30 really quickely with no fuss. how ever she wakes every hour or so through the night, and she does go back to sllep if i stay with her and stroke her head. and this will go on all night.
should i try pic up put down, or not as she is goiing back to sleep on her own.
the sa during the day is a bit better now i have moved the baby gate from the front room to the kitch door so she can follow me.
i just dont know when to do about the nw i really want to have her sleeping through the night. should i give her a bottle?
please help!!!

shelly
