GREAT question...  I've got a similar post going - something like "How to handle chronic EW's"
on this board.

Your post could be mine!
So, obviously, my answer is no, but here are some things that work *sometimes* in getting us to 5:40-6:15 am instead of 5 or even worse!!!
-slightly later bedtime- my ds only does 10 hrs now at night :(
-longer A times, especially before the first nap (we're still on 2 a day, but not for much longer)
-not feeding ds until a wake time that I find acceptable (we do 7 am)!  This has helped a lot I think!

I'd love to hear about anything you've tried that's worked even a little bit!  Maybe someone can crack the code ...  Hope tomorrow brings you a 7 am wake-up :)  Sara

Hmmm

I stopped the 2 naps a day and now he has 1 nap after lunch. This helped slightly. if he drops off in the morning, he has a worse night.
I won't get him out of bed until 6.30 and won't feed him till 7am.

I really have tried everything at least 3x to no avail! - Wake 2 Sleep, black outs, keeping room temp constant, later bedtimes, earlier bedtimes, 2 nap a day, 3 naps a day, varios amounts of day sleep from 45 mins to 3 hours, sleeping in gro-bag, on a pillow, lavendar essence to calm him, reduced amount of milk at bedtime (waking cos too wet?), more milk at bedtime (waking cos too hungry), reintroduced a night feed, took it away again, special night time milk, and more i've forgotten now!

hey sounds awful !I am so not a morning person and could not handle that!

have you tried leaving him a while to see if resettles or would just hang out in his crib? I dont know what time my little one gets up as she just plays in her cot without a sound but is up when I reluctantly get out of bed at 8am heehee.

Sorry I cant offer much help, but hope the situation is resolved soon for you

emmayorkshire- IMPRESSIVE list!  Sadly, it sounds all too familiar.  Can you at least tell me that the 2-1 switch helped just a little tiny bit?!
I'm hoping SOMEONE out here can help you!

Yes we're on 1 nap a day - about 12.30 to 2.30. The transition has been OK, he hang on until after his lunch but he is definitely tired by 11am. Sometimes he drops off  on the morning if he is in his pram. His routine is pretty regular. Wake at 5-530 ish. Leave him in his cot until 6.30. He is happy to chatter and sing to his animals but is so loud you can't sleep through it! He never goes back to sleep. Breakfast at 7, activities until 11.30 nap 12.30-2.30, dinner at 4.30, bath 6.30, milk and bed by 7pm. i can't see anything wrong in his routine, but maybe someone can?

Probably something you've already thought of or tried, but maybe he needs a longer A time in the afternoon?

We are suffering early wakings too.  The only thing i can think of Emma from yorkshire is to make the bedtime half hour to an hour later and nap a little later  and his waketime may shift later.  I have had advice form two people to say that this worked for them.  I am currentyy trying it for my 16 month old.

I have a thread going on this board too..  "Early waking for 16 month old - argh I am back to work"

Thanks EloysH, I will give it another try. How long have you been trying this approach now, by that I mean, how long should I keep at it! I have tried putting him to bed later but only for 3 days in a row before i gave it up as a bad job. It's hard to know what to do because of all the conflicting advice about later bedtimes actually making early waking worse. Having said that, the earlier bed time approach certainly didn't work (working on the principle he's overtired and needs more sleep earlier in the night to stop the early waking) and I tried that one for 2 weeks! Have bought myself some Bachs Rescue remedy night time spray to help me sleep better too.

Hi Emmayorkshire and EVERYONE.   Well I have some hopeful news to report.       READ THIS!!!

Yesterday I moved Jarrahs nap and bedtime half hour later and he slept in till 6:30am!!!   SO I think its working.  Nap was at 11:45, and bedtime 7:15am.   Also, for some reason he only napped an hour so I think that helped.

Lets see what tomorrow brings!!

Remember to move the nap time  later too.

I'm also having some luck with this approach, although we've been going at it a lot slower- moving the nap later and therefore, bedtime later.  I didn't see success immediately.. took a while for him to adjust to the later nap time I think... but now he's consistently going to bed later and waking later (6 am usually, but I'll take it over 5 am any DAY!)
