How do you dry your bottles?

I've just started the transition to bottle feeding after 3 months BF.  I've had low supply issues for a month and have been trying to increase my supply, but with no luck, and have given up.  After reading some other posts I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with guilt issues  :-\

Anyway, my question is, how do you dry your bottles? I've tried just leaving them out after sterilising, but they don't dry completely, especialy the teats.  I've tried paper towel and get little bits of fluff left behind.  I feel really stupid, but how do you make sure they're properly dry?

Also, do you store your bottles in the fridge or just in the cupboard?

Hi there

I just give them all a really good shake when they come out of the steriliser and then seal the bottles with the teats in.  I leave them on the kitchen counter and then just use them when i need.  The teats etc are always dry when I come to use them and according to my health visitor they are still sterile even though not kept in the fridge as they are only opened when being filled.

This is my second baby but when I had the last one was when you could make up a whole days worth of feeds, store them in the fridge and heat when needed.  Now you have to make them up as you go I found I had to keep asking my health visitor loads of questions  ::)

I never dried them to be honest, as always thought well the little drips of sterilising fluid isn't harmful or you wouldn't be able to use it for babies bottles. Interesting..... Just never thought about it to be honest x

Hiya

I'm one of the mummys who makes the bottles up in advance, the guidelines that the hospital gave me (written by the health booard and food safety authority in Ireland) said that they can be stored in fridge for up to 24 hours so that's what I've been doing. If you would like a copy of the guidelines that I was given pm me.

Bottlefeeding is an absolute mine field ( I bf my ds and it was sooooo much easier heehee) everyone has their own slant on it. But i  would shake the bottles to get rid of excess water and then put te lid on. The water left in the bottle after sterilising is sterile anyway.

Hi,
i've been bottle feeding from day one, (not my choice sadly) :(

I don't sterilise!! (Shock horror across BW i hear), but in Oz we are told that you don't need to, just hot soapy water and rinse, I do however, from time to time pop them in the Microwave sterilizer, I used to use Miltons but got al lworried about Lo ingesting it , (i was thinking along the lines of, it is a chemical - I'm a worry wart though),i leave them on the drainer, let them dry with a clean tea towel over them or shake and put together again straight away! I don't worry about the little droplets either.....

Fran - we used to make up our bottles in advance too,
Linda -never heard of it not being a good thing....
It really is amazing all the different info we get across the globe ::) here we are told to make up w cooled boiled water, then store in the back of the fridge, (coldest part)

Having said that I got so sick of wasting milk when we got more mobile, that I now pour water into bottles for the whole 24hrs and then make up as I go adn take fornmula in a dispenser for the amount of feeds required whilst out. I leave the bottles of water on the counter too so that they are room temp, I don't heat Lo's bottles

I never really thought of this either! I use a steam steriliser so the water left on the bottles is sterile. I just keep my bottles in the fridge until needed. I shake xs water off but don't dry them  - this would make them un-sterile again surely? Unless you use sealed wipes I guess :-\

Spanna.......................NOT STERILISING ...........................SHOCK HORROR!!!!!! LOL. That would make like sooo much easier. The tips of my fingers have no sensation left in them from handling hot bottles lol. It's definately a different way of thinking tho!!

Spanna (Anna), we don't sterilize here either, just hot soapy water or a run through the dishwasher.  Then drip dry!

Far out the advice across the globe is different!  I'm in Oz too and thought the hot soapy water thing was if you were feeding expressed breast milk - because the milk has antibodies you don't need to sterilise.  There is so much advice out there, it's good to know I can relax and just keep doing what I was doing! It makes sense that the water left behind is sterile and not to worry about it, I just didn't know.  Thanks for your comments!
