How do I do w2s?
« on: March 27, 2009, 08:20:50 am »
Hi

I am trying very hard to get my OT DS back on track. He got OT by himself a weeks ago and I am trying herd to get him back to his normal Angel/textbook Baby self (so as you guess the OT crying is a real shock to me, I've been spoilt)

I would really like to know where to start with w2s to get him out of having short naps. Until a week ago he was a great napper/night sleeper but it somehow all went wrong.

Anyway, how to I make him stur without actually waking him too much?

Any tips would be great

can you post your routine for us to have a look at?  Sometimes that's an easier place to start in terms of lengthening naps.  If it's not a routine issue, then we can look at other things.  w2s works best if your bub wakes at the same point during all naps (ie - always at 25 min or 35 min etc.), not just for naps that are short.

I am trying to change his EAS as he has got very over tired recently and I found out I have been keeping him awake too long. I don't have much of a day plan yet as I have only been trying to get him to nap earlier since yesterday, (with not too much success)

So today it went
E 6.15
A 6.30
S 8.15 - 8.50
E 8.50
A 9.00
S 10.30-11
E 11
A 11.15
S 12.30 - 2.15 (yippi)
E 2.30
A 2.45
S 3.30 - 4.15
A 4.15 - 5
E 5
A 5.15
S 5.45 -and this is where we are now. I want him to go to bed at 7 but I can see tonight it will be later because he has only just decided to have his cat nap

I have been trying to keep his feeds 3 hours appart because I am trying to get him onto 3-3.5 EAS which is why thisafternoon got a bit weird.

Also he has only had 5 naps today because after the stupid short naps this morning he needed more sleep this afternoon.

He hasn't had 5 naps a day for a long time, but he also hasn't slept as long as he has this afternoon in a long time. I really want longer naps in the day because he is finding it really hard to sleep at night.

Thank you for any help

I think your A time is still too long - at 3 mos, most bubs are doing 1 hr 20 min - 1.5 hrs.  And often, the first  A time of the day is even shorter.  Keep in mind too that A time includes eating and the wind down.  I would still shorten up his A time - I think that will have a better result with his naps than doing w2s.  It looks to me like the short naps are OT.  I wouldn't have your A time any longer than 1.5 hrs, and it may need to be less - especially first thing in the am.  Also, most bubs work best on a 12 hr day, so you do want to work towards bringing his bedtime a bit earlier.
