5 month old Not Eating Till NOON! Help!
« on: March 22, 2009, 22:37:25 pm »
Hey all!

I transitioned my LO to a 4 hour EASY about a month ago, and everything went very well... she is sleeping through the night like a champ, was eating well...

However, for the past two weeks, she has awakened at her normal time in the morning, and is absolutely NOT interested in eating until after her first nap!  So she'll wake up at 7 am and I'll offer a bottle, which she just doesn't want.  I put her down at 9 am, and when she wakes up at 10, then she'll eat.  Today, however, she didn't want anything till almost 1 pm!

Could the dreamfeed be the culprit?  Should I try to cut it out and see if that helps?  Should I go cold turkey, or should I wean?

Here's our schedule, fyi:

Wake - 7 am and I offer a bottle
A
S - 9 am
E - 11 am
A
S - 12 pm
E - 3 pm
A
S- 4 pm
E - 7 pm
Bath at 8
Bedtime at 9

Dreamfeed at 11.  She usually eats 5-6 oz here.

She usually eats around 24-28 oz a day, all told.

thanks!

Sarah

Is your lo teething?  This could be the culprit and your lo may be uncomfortable.  If you see signs of teething, I would try rubbing teething gel on your lo's gums a few minutes before a feed to see if this makes any difference.  Also one thing to remember about teething is that your lo may not acutally be cutting a tooth, but they could be moving up in the gums and this can be very sore for them.

Also what size teat are you using?  Do you think that your lo could be ready for the next stage up teat?

The DF could be interferring with your lo's appetite, but would not think that it would be causing that much of a problem that your lo is not hungry and noon.  Perhaps try moving the DF to say 10pm and see if that makes any difference.

Huge hugs, please keep us posted on how you get on.

Paula has already given you tons of great advice.  Just wanted to second the opinion on teething!  I don't think the dream feed would cause lack of hunger that many hours later!

GOOD LUCK!

Keep us posted!
