Hard to keep awake during the day
« on: March 23, 2009, 15:24:37 pm »
Hi All.  My 7 week old DS is in a great 3 our feeding routine, so much so you can set your watch by him!  My worry is that he is very sleepy in some days and impossible to keep awake.  He is currently awake for an hour to feed and play then naps for 1.5 / 2 hours before the next feed and waking twice in the night (had got this down to one but a recent cold took us back to twice nightly.  Any advice tips appreciated x

Hi,

Congrats on getting on the 3 hr feeding routine. I wouldn't worry about your LO sleeping lots because he's still so young. As long as he's awake even for a few minutes between feeding and sleeping, the feed won't become a prop for sleeping.  Also, many babies go through a growth spurt aroung 6 or 7 weeks.  During this time, some babies sleep a lot.

Awake for an hr and sleeping for 1.5-2 hrs sounds ideal to me. As long as lo has the day and night sorted from each other I wouldn't worry about letting lo sleep for at least 2.5 hrs. I would enjoy it while it lasts!

Hi Archi & Pauls mums.  Thanks for the replies and putting mind at rest.  PaulsMum, Jack is staying awake for a period after his feed.  Have a great day x
