Ladies I had to share with you my experiences over the past month. I have had a 45 minute cat napper from birth. I tried everything to extend them. I was so obsessed I was driving myself crazy. I was so upset I even cried on my son in his crib (he thought it was pretty funny of course).
I finally said this is it, I am just going to live with these naps as my son is wonderful and this is the way he is. At about 5.5 mths he started to do one long nap a day ( 1 hr 20 minutes) pretty consistently. Not at the same time each day but he would do one for the most part. Then at 6 mths he started to do 2 longs naps (1 hr and 20 minutes) pretty consistently buy not always. Well he just turned 7 mths (2 days ago) and he has been doing naps of 2 hours even 3 hours a couple times a day.
What changed? Well 2 things I think...first he is a paci addict and he can replug himself (so cute to watch). Second I think he is teething and it appears to make him tired (no teeth though). On one of the posts it talks about day sleep being worked on from 3 - 6 mths I believe this is true it just took my LO until past 6 mths to get it a little more consistent.
I want to send a lot of hugs to all the Moms out there with the cat nappers. I fought with myself for 6 mths and I believe once I truly accepted the 45 minute naps they began to change. Our LO's are all different and we just need to embrace it. I think I thought I could change him, but he is perfect the way he is, I just could not accept it soon enough.
As Tracy says "and this to shall pass" I am living proof that it will. If you knew me you would know that I don't give up easy and I wish I had of seen that I could not change his natural body rhythm before 6 months so that I could stop stressing and give my full attention to my wonderful little man.
Thanks to all the ladies on this board that offered me advice, hugs and constant support.
I love the BW and the people that make it great!!!
