9 month old naps are crazy.. 27 mins what am i doing wrong!!
« on: April 27, 2009, 15:17:28 pm »
Hi all,

After months of night waking we eventually got her to sttn by putting her to bed early, and now she has 12-13hr sleep at night... but the last week her naps have been terrible and she wakes a few times a week an hour or so after bed.

I do nor want to go back to her waking every hour like she was for 4 months and i think if the bad naps continue she is going to go back to the over tired cycle.

Wake 7.00am
Eat
Activity
Sleep 9.30am- be lucky if I get 25-40 Min's. she is rubbing her eyes and yawning, she can't take much A time in the Morning never has.
Lunch 12.00
Nap between 13.00/13.30- this nap she either goes mad and point blank refuses or wakes after 24Min's.
Eat
Sleep in bed by 6.30PM at the lastest

She is teething but her naps are all over the place, last week i have extended her activity by 15 Min's, and that made no difference, she is a spirited baby and had always been a really bad sleeper.

I have looked on the easy schedule and most 9month old do between 2hr, 2.5hrs 3.hrs 4hrs.... so where do i start.. get the time too wrong and she goes in to a overtired monster.

Pls help i want my well rested baby back not the grumpy one.

Thanks in advance

Just went thru this with another mom! I'm going to give you her thread to look thru, and then we'll talk:

http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=148103.0

Like the other mom, I beleive your child is UT (undertired). As you've already discovered, most children have a much longer A time than you're doing.  The tired signals you're seeing may be out of habit rather than true tiredness.  Not an uncommon phenomenon among angel/textbook kids.  As you'll find in the thread I've recommended, we had to slowly increase A time with LO until he was in the right realm for his age.  That seems to have worked well!

Read the above thread and then we'll develop a plan for you too.

hi,

today was alot better.. but not sure why.

Woke at 6.45am
nap at 9.40am slept for 55mins... which is a huge improvement.
2nd nap 1.55 she was very tired never gone that long before but slept a 1.35hrs i cant belive it.

I am going to push the Am nap by 10-15 mins and i dont think she was tired enough when i put her down, both times she was asleep in less then a minute.

Tonight though put her to bed a little later and she was still awake after an hour which she has never done... so i am expecting night wakings.

fingers crossed for me

You'll probably have to push her slowly.  I'd work on increasing A times before naps but leave bedtime A time within her known range, as an OT baby at bedtime leads to NWs whereas an OT baby at nap just means a short nap, something that can be fixed by an appropriate bedtime.

go slow! As you'll have read in the other thread, she moved her child about every 2-3 days and only by 5-15 minutes at a time.  Even still she had some setbacks, so it will be a frustrating process at times.  Yet within 2 weeks I think we had her child up to where he needed to be with A time and back to napping around 1.5 hours at a go! So you'll get there! I'll hang with you while you do it!  ;)
