Milk OD with 15 month old
« on: May 02, 2008, 19:56:37 pm »
Hi all,

I realized today that I might be OD ing DS on milk.

He is still taking 3 bottles totalling to about 20-22oz of milk, 2 small pots of yogurt and 1 baby bell (apparently equal to 5oz of milk).

is that too much, could this be replacing his solids and causing mid night/early morning hunger?

Also could excess milk lead to spots on the face?

Lastly, if I nee to replace his milk bottle with snacks, what options do I have? DS cannot eat a sandwhich....

Thanks,
Mukta

I don't know if it's too much, I know it's more than rachel had at about this age - she would have 4oz in the morning and 6oz at night and that was it.  we had to limit the morning milk because she wouldn't eat her breakfast and then would get over hungry (something she can get to quite easily and is worse than over tired) and we had to remove mid afternoon milk because she wouldn't eat her tea.

as for snack options, here's our list - apple, banana, grapes, pears, melon pieces, raisins, toddler biscuits, home made flapjacks, yoghurt, cheese, popcorn (without any salt or sugar), toast, pitta bread, crumpet etc

Thanks for that , very helpful. I reduced him milk over the weekend and the spots are gone :D, could be coincidence as well....

We are also just starting the transition to sippy up for milk, he takes water only in sippy cup but has been resisting milk) so I think the volumes will even out. I am going to offer milk in a sippy for morning and afternoon and bottle only for night as i do want him to go to sleep on a full tummy so as to avoid messing up the night and sleeping as well!

Thanks again!

Hiya,

My little girl Polly is drinking 20-35oz before bed, from a bottle, and we are worried that she is having too much.
She also has cheese, yoghurts etc during the day but not milk.
We tried Polly with milk in a cup but she wont have it, but drinks water quite happily from a cup.
Some people suggested a straw cup so we may give that a go!

Good luck!

Hi Mukta- Nick takes 3 servings of milk, 8 oz each, one for each meal. The rest of the day he gets water, juice. He doesn't care for cheese/yogurt that much, so he needs his milk.
Weaning to a cup will probably reduce the amount if you're worried. Nick uses sippy cups, straw cups, and just an open cup.
