EW's. Is it the heat???
« on: July 02, 2009, 07:49:27 am »
Hi there,
Well my LO has always been an early riser and has done 6.30pm-6/6.30am for sometime. I know this is not an EW as he is sleeping 11.5-12 hours and anytime after 6 is fine with me but the last two days he has woken at 5.20am - too too early. The first day he was happy in his cot until 6.15am when we started the day but today he was not. :( I went in and turned him over as he was on his front. Tried to resettle a couple of times but he was having none of it. I am not sure whether it is because he is naturally waking at this time and because it is so warm here he gets fed up (it is quite hot in his room) or whether we need to tweak our routine.  So this is yesterday and apart from the EW it was a good day.

Awake at 5.20am - in cot until 6.15am - may have dozed?
E - 6.30am - solids at 7.30am
S - 8.30-10.15am

E - 11am - solids
bottle at 1pm
S - 1.50-3.15pm

E - tea at 4.15pm
Very short CN for 10 mins as had to go out in the car.
S - 6.30pm after milk - straight to sleep.

Then STTN until 5.20am.
Until these last 2 mornings he has been doing 2.5 A time for the first nap of the day and sleeping for 1 hour so I don't know whether he has just created his own A time???
I have stuck to the usual nap time to try and rectify this but not sure it is working.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me. Too early and very tired :(

Becky x
ps - he is 8 months and is touchy. Has always been slightly low for A times for his age but maybe he has leapt forward suddenly!?

Hi Becky,

I think you you can start pushing his A time a bit.  At 8 months it is around 3h.  You don't have to do it all at once you can do it in increments of 10-15 min every few days until you up to 3 h A time.  The heat however can also play roll because just like adults it's unconfortable for them to sleep if it is too warm.. :-*

We're having the same problem - dd2 has always been an early bird, but like you she goes down at 6.30 so I don't complain about getting up at 6.  She has often woken at 5/5.30 and gone back to sleep, but the last couple of days she has been awake from 5.20.  I think it is probably the heat, so I would wonder if you might be better keeping things as they are for a couple of days until the heat breaks - then if he's still waking early next week you can look at tweaking your routine.  The other thing that is definitely going on with my lo that might be worth thinking about is teething - dd2 had 2 nights when she slept solidly until 6, but then started showing all her teething signs and started waking at 5 - worth thinking about?

thanks girls. :) Yes I do think we need to push the first A time to 3 hours and yes maybe he is teething. Will see how we go x
