6 months. rolling over, needing dummy, is she UT
« on: July 01, 2009, 19:19:13 pm »
hi again all, can't believe i'm back for yet more advice again! we've had about a week of good naps until today... i put catherine down after the usual 2h20mins A time, she immediaetly rolled onto her back (She's a tummy sleeper), beaming smiles at me. i rolled her over, she rolled back etc etc for 15 minutes,. in the end i gave her the dummy and she went instantly to sleep and did a full 1.5 hours. Same thing at the next nap, and same thing at bedtime. she's been in for over an hour now and still isn't asleep. she isn't crying so i haven't been in. i don't know what to do, am i giving her too short A time? She's been awake for 3 hours now since her catnap. should i extend her A time to 2.5 hours between naps?  she has been waking up early for a few weeks (5.30 - 6) but going back to sleep when i give her the dummy. until today she hadn't needed the dummy for sleeps for months but she's had it every nap and bedtime today which is really depressing as i worked so hard to get rid of it when she was little.
any advice anyone or do i just ride it out!
anna :)

Could she be teething? This is exactly what my girls did before they cut a tooth.
Could you post your routine for us so i can get an overall picture? Could be she is dropping the catnap?

hi thanks for your reply. she doesn't seem to be teething but it's hard to tell in this heat. an overall routine would be something like this, until a few days ago anyway:
Awake: 6am (dummy back to sleep)
Eat: 7 (about 2 ounces)
8: rice and veggies
Activity to about 9.20, winddown in room
S: 9.30 - 11
E: 11
A: 11 - 1.15
S: 1.30 - 3
E: 3
A: 3 - 4.45
S: 4.45 - 5
E: 5.30 (2 ounces, doesnt always want it)
bath: 6,
E: 6.45 (about 6 ounces)
S: 7 (ha ha ha )
DF: 10.30

yesterday she did this rolling around in her cot until 9pm and was awake a lot in the night due to the heat, awake as normal at 6am, back to sleep til 7. VERY grumpy from 8, screaming by 9, asleep with dummy in 9.15, i didn;t even attempt to get her to sleep without it just now. didn;t do the rolling thing, i think she's massively overtired after last nights activities, she usually has 1.5hours per nap but i'm wondering if i should let her have 2 this morning to catch up?

i don;t think she could drop the catnap yet as there's no way she could do 3 hours A time. How much A time should she be having after the catnap so she's properly tired by bedtime, am i putting her down too early perhaps?

many thanks
anna

Sounds like she is needing a little more awake time. I would try 15mins at a time and give it a few days to see if that helps.

you were right, she was teething!! first little bit of white came through yesterday, not at the front though, it's one of the molars so no wonder she was suffering!
